I completed Penn State's Certificate Program in Geographic Information Systems in 2004. So I am proficient with ArcGIS software and enjoy creating innovative maps and data displays. I am a big fan of Edward Tufte, as I hope this website design reflects.
Since March, 2007, I have worked at the MIT Libraries, GIS Laboratory in the Rotch Library. This has given many opportunities to help others find information and use it to develop innovative maps.
A client needed to estimate the benefits of reduced soil erosion from oil and gas drilling sites
nationwide. I used the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE), weather,
soil, and slope information to estimate soil loss from disturbed drilling sites.
A basic function of maps is to show where things are in relationship to one another. This map shows locations of meat processing plants around the US along with their discharge volume and population density.
Maps also show how to get from place to place. Here are directions to a friend's house.
